1984

Julian Allen follows the family tradition of construction and founded R.J. Allen & Associates, which was entrusted with many commercial projects in a five-state region including large-scale condominiums, apartments, retirement homes and nursing centers.

2002

Julian Allen was joined by son-in-law, David Blackburn, to help advance R.J. Allen’s residential and commercial construction in the Texas and Mississippi markets

2006

David Blackburn purchases an interest in R. J. Allen & Associates, Inc., and is named President of the company.

2007

Blackburn completes development and construction of its’ first residential community, the Oaks at Wildwood, breaks ground in Georgetown, TX. The Oaks at Wildwood is an 86-home active adult community that received the Community of the Year award for the Austin, TX metro area for 2009 and 2010.

2009

Blackburn Communities was formed to focus on the development of residential communities in the Southern United States. It has expanded over the years to become one of the premier homebuilders in Texas and Mississippi.

2011

Blackburn began development of its first student housing development, Molly Barr Trails, in Oxford, MS. This community was expanded to include a second phase, Molly Barr Ridge, in 2014. Both Molly Barr Trails and Molly Barr Ridge were sold in 2016.

Blackburn Construction begins its first single tenant development with a national retail tenant. This experience leads to Blackburn expanding to developing Dollar Generals in 2015 and the formation of Streamline Development in 2018.

2012

In 2012, Blackburn Communities took over the Oxford Commons development, a 500+ acre master planned community in Oxford, MS which has since expanded to include an additional 120+ acres.
Development begins on the Preserve at Mayfield Ranch, a 159 home community in Round Rock, TX.

2013

Southaven Marketplace, a 6,500 square foot retail center in Southaven, MS breaks ground.

2014

Highland Court, a 48,000 square foot retail center in Oxford, MS breaks ground in 2014.

Development begins on The Park at Oxford Commons, a 92,500 square foot office park within the Oxford Commons master planned community.

2015

Hays Junction Apartments breaks ground in Kyle, TX on phase 1 which consists of 207 units. This is expanded to 309 units with phase 2 in 2017.

Russell Street Flats, a 62 unit student housing property in downtown Starkville, MS, begins development. Gin on Russell, a 64 unit condominium community in downtown Starkville, MS, begins construction with all units pre-sold in the first phase.

Blackburn begins developing Dollar General stores in 2015 in Mississippi and Tennessee.

2016

Blackburn Homes is formed to focus on the single family residential development arm of the business and creating neighborhoods and communities in suburban infill areas.

2017

Blackburn purchases Anderson Grove Apartments, an 80-unit apartment community in Oxford, MS, and begins renovations.

2018

Wells Junction, a 264-unit apartment community in Austin, TX begins construction.

Streamline Development is formed to focus on serving the existing National retail clients for Blackburn and to expand into additional markets.

2019

Leander Junction, a 288-unit apartment community in Leander, TX, breaks ground.

The Crossing at Oxford Commons, a townhome development in the Oxford Commons master planned community, breaks ground.

The Terrace at Oxford Commons, a 16,000 square foot retail center in the Oxford Commons master planned community, breaks ground and is 100% pre-leased.

2020

RJ Allen & Associates rebrands as Blackburn Construction and expands its operations to Colorado with the start of Polaris Junction, a 301-unit apartment community in Colorado Springs.

Tech Junction, a 288-unit apartment community in Austin, TX, breaks ground.

2022

River Junction, a 329-unit apartment community in Leander, TX, breaks ground.
